BEAUTIFUL Rare Antique 1880 Deluxe Edition Family Bible — Unmarked with Photo Album & Awards. Massive Imperial Size: Approx. 12.5" H x 10.5" W x 4.5" D.
Up for sale is an exceptionally rare, massive parlor-sized copy of Brown's Self-Interpreting Bible, published in Philadelphia by John E. Potter and Company (circa 1880). This deluxe edition features an incredibly preserved high-relief sculpted leather binding, brilliant gold-leaf tooling, and functional dual brass closing clasps.
Why This Copy is Highly Collectible & Rare:
🏆 Historic Exhibition Medals Page: Includes the rare, fully intact promotional engraving page documenting the publisher's 1876 Grand Centennial World's Fair First Premium Medal and the 1874 Franklin Institute Diploma for elite printing and binding excellence.
⭐ 100% Blank Family Registry: The grand genealogical center (Matrimony, Births, Marriages, Deaths) is completely unmarked and pristine—ready for a new family heirloom registry.
📸 Pristine, Empty Family Photo Album: Features a heavy cardstock portrait section at the rear with intact window sleeves for 16 vintage family photographs (zero typical tearing or sagging).
🌈 Vibrant Chromolithographs: Contains brilliant, beautifully preserved multi-color illuminated title plates with no fading or damp staining.
🔒 Structurally Superior Joints: The front and rear inner hinges feature a professional, period-correct dark green book cloth reinforcement. This keeps the massive leather covers perfectly stable and securely anchored.
Physical Specifications:
Massive Imperial Size: Approx. 12.5" H x 10.5" W x 4.5" D.
Page Edges: Shimmering, full triple-edge gold gilt.
Provenance: Retains its historic miniature bookseller ticket from "W.A. Ingham & Van Epps, Cleveland, O."
Detailed Condition:
Interior: The text block is exceptionally clean, bright, and crisp. It is completely free from the heavy foxing or aging common in this era.
Exterior: Normal, expected shelf wear and rubbing to the leather edges, corners, and spine caps. The leather remains strong and supple. Both ornate brass clasps function flawlessly and lock tightly.
Noted Flaws: One page color map ("The Holy Land / Twelve Tribes") has a clean tear on the bottom-left corner margin extending slightly into the elevation chart border. Three text pages have old, yellowed tape repairs from long ago (all text remains fully legible). A few pages have tiny edge from handling.
100% complete. Please review all high-resolution photos to view the spectacular gold stamping, the pristine registry pages, and the exact condition of the map corner.
